In September 2017 we hosted award-winning journalist Niren Tolsi who visited our two community partners on the Accounting for Basic Services (ABS) project, funded by the European Union Delegation to South Africa.  The Sakhingomso and Thandanani CBO in KwaNxamalala, Msunduzi, is working to ensure that unemployed youth in the area have access to job opportunities on a R9m roads construction project in the area, and that the municipality’s “One Ward, one Co-op” programme – to employ youth in refuse collection – is rolled out in their ward.  The Mpolweni community in uMshwathi is working to ensure that indigent households receive Free Basic Services and write-offs of disputed historical debts arising from meter reading and billing issues in the District Municipality.
